1950 – 2013
James R. Waters, 63, of Slovan, was called home by his Lord his Savior Tuesday afternoon, October 8, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born June 26, 1950, in Wheeling, W.Va.
A 1968 graduate of Union High School, Burgettstown, Mr. Waters was a veteran of the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. After being honorably discharged and receiving the National Defense Service Medal, he worked for and retired after 35 years from Weirton Steel Corp. Until August 2013, he worked for the American Association for the Blind in Washington, where he drove people to and from their doctor’s appointments.
Mr. Waters attended Hickory U.E. Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bonnie Pirillo Waters; a daughter, Jennifer Harvey of Houston; a son, Jim Waters and wife Rebecca of Florida; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Emily, who were the joys of his life.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be tremendously missed by his family and friends as a great man who made many accomplishments in his life.
To honor Mr. Waters’ wishes, there will be no public visitation. Services and interment with military honors will be held in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Arrangements are under the direction of Lee and Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown.
