Washington glassworker served during WWII
George Joseph Baumgardner, 84, of Washington, died Thursday, October 10, 2013, in Washington Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1929, in Washington, a son of Paul W. Baumgardner and Ethel Ida Gray Baumgardner.
Mr. Baumgardner was employed as a layer man at Metro Glass and Ball Glass and was in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He enjoyed gardening and, when he was younger, was involved in carrier pigeon competition races.
On December 30, 1951, he married Eva A. Daugherty, who survives.
Also surviving are daughter Linda (William) Grego of Washington; two grandchildren, Alysa Avolia and Carla Burt; and four great-grandchildren, Julian, Aidan, Brandon and Malia.
Deceased are four brothers, Charles, John, Carl and Earl Baumgardner; four sisters, Ethel Boardley, Margaret Fritchley, Sarah McKinney and Catherine Boardley; and an infant son, Robert.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 15. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
