World War II Army veteran
George Sarapa, 85, of Dilliner (Taylortown), died quietly Friday, October 11, 2013, in the home of his son, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Burgettstown January 31, 1928, he was a son of the late Stephen Sarapa and Opal Mathews Sarapa Arrizano.
A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Dunkard in Taylortown, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In 1988, after 45 years in the coal mines, Mr. Sarapa retired from Duquesne Light’s Warwick Mine in Greensboro.
Surviving are his five children and their spouses, Gary and Alice Sarapa of Greensboro, Michael and Rosemary Sarapa of Taylortown, Paulette and Walter Donley of Dilliner, Mary Annette and Stewart Jones of Wake Forest, N.C., and Susan and Doug Malone of Greensboro; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Ann Stewart of Ohio.
Deceased are his wife of 58 years, JoAnne Hoover Sarapa, who died August 4, 2010; two brothers, Adam and Steve Sarapa Jr.; and his stepfather, Paul Arrizano.
Friends will be received from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, and from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Monday, October 14, in First Baptist Church of Dunkard, Taylortown, with the Rev. Daniel Hennessey officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Taylortown.
