Former Jessop Steel president
Robert L. Loughhead, 84, of Riva, Md., died September 18, 2013, in Annapolis, Md.
He was born in Beaver.
Mr. Loughhead had a distinguished career in the steel industry. He was president of Jessop Steel Co., president of Copperweld Steel Co. and president, chief executive officer and chairman of Weirton Steel Co., where he oversaw the creation of the largest employee stock ownership plan to be undertaken at the time.
He was also a partner in 3DAdvisors, an institutional equity research firm.
Mr. Loughhead was a graduate of Geneva College, a certified public accountant and a Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award judge.
He was a world traveler, avid sailor and accomplished marine navigator.
Mr. Loughhead was active in multiple service organizations.
Surviving are a son, Charles Loughhead of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Cynthia Lopata of Wynnewood; a grandson, Willis Loughhead of New York, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Ada Gillis of St. Charles, Ill.
His wife, Genevieve Vlasic, died in 2006.
