Army vet, Ave Maria Parish member
William A. “Fiki” Andrachick, 94, of Bentleyville, died peacefully Saturday evening, October 12, 2013, in Thorpe’s Personal Care Home, Charleroi.
He was born January 18, 1919, in Ellsworth, a son of Joseph and Mary Zmuda Andrachick.
Mr. Andrachick attended Ellsworth schools.
He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in battles in the Philippines and Okinawa with the 57th Field Artillery.
Mr. Andrachick was a member of Ave Maria Parish, where he was the cheese cutter for the pierogie makers. He also dug graves by hand for the parish cemetery.
He retired from Bethlehem Mining Corp. Mine 51 in Ellsworth.
Mr. Andrachick was an avid golfer at Chippewa Golf Course in Bentleyville and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He played baseball through the local Vikings team. A man of many talents, he built the family home, built bird houses for family and friends and for 30 years shot fireworks for Zambelli’s. He was a member of the Lithuanian Club and a former bowler at Tan-O-Bell Lanes, both in Bentleyville.
On July 13, 1946, in St. Luke Church of Bentleyville, he married Stella Evanosky , who died July 5, 2012.
Surviving are daughters Mary Jo Harris (Robert T.) of California, Joanne M. Tonin (Frank) of Greensburg and Valerie Silva of Edinboro; grandchildren Monica Van Court (Ron), Frank W. Tonin (Linda), Jason M. Tonin and Elizabeth Sinchak; four great-grandchildren, Robbie and Jessica Van Court and Abigail and Quinn Tonin; sisters Helen Breed of Napa, Calif., and Genevieve Parsons of Clairton; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Karen A. Sinchak, who died March 5, 2010; brothers Chester A., Robert and Louis Andrachick and Joseph Poznaski; and sisters Josephine Anderson and Phyllis Prickett.
There will be no visitation. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 19, in Ave Maria Church, 126 Church Street, Bentleyville, with the Rev. Edward L. Yuhas, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Luke Cemetery of Ave Maria Parish, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville.
