Uniontown resident known for quick wit, humor

Jennie Harford Welsh, 95, of Uniontown, and formerly of Carmichaels and New Salem, died unexpectedly at 11:59 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013, in Marques House, Uniontown.

She was born November 2, 1917, in German Township, Fayette County, a daughter of the late Thomas Jackson and Clara McLaughlin Harford.

Mrs. Welsh was a graduate of German Township High School and was a member of New Salem Presbyterian Church.

She was last employed as an office receptionist for the late Dr. Roy C. Jack in Carmichaels.

Mrs. Welsh enjoyed playing bingo, knitting, playing cards and working puzzles. She and her late husband, Irvin, particularly liked to dance. Mrs. Welsh was known for her quick wit and her sense of humor.

On January 14, 1939, she married Irvin F. Welsh, who died April 17, 2006.

Surviving are two daughters, Coral “Buzz” Brodak and her husband John of Carmichaels and Lorraine “Rainy” Welsh and her partner David Roberts of Ligonier; four grandchildren, Melissa “Missy Ann” Curtis and her husband Jeff of Huntington, W.Va., Jacqueline “Jackie” Horvath and her husband Andrew of Ligonier, Claudine “Dena” Ferek of Carmichaels and Joseph I. Brodak and his wife Stacey of Washington; eight great-grandchildren, Lezlie Curtis and her husband Sam, Lissa Curtis, Jaycee Curtis, J. Alexander Curtis, Samantha Robinson and her husband Marcus, Jessica Ferek, Georgianna Ferek and Jonathan W. Brodak; a great-great-grandson, Ignatius Riley Thorn; a niece, Stephanie Gallo; and a nephew, Robert Harford.

She was the last of her siblings.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are a granddaughter, Meghan Elizabeth Crawford; three brothers, Freeman Harford, Thomas James “Buddy” Harford and Edward Gerald “Pete” Harford; four sisters, Emma Harford, who died in infancy, Anna Belle “Nonnie” Harford, Margaret Edna “Det” Harford and Mildred “Midge” Loucks; and a grandson-in-law, Stan W. Ferek III.

Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, 724-966-5500, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 19. The Rev. Chris Enoch will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Point Cemetery, Carmichaels. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
