Ann Andy, 97, of Washington, died Thursday, October 17, 2013, in Southminster Place of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington, with her family by her bedside.
She was born December 13, 1915, in San Pietro, Italy, a daughter of the late Rosario and Caroline Vadacchino Zaccaria.
Mrs. Andy arrived at Ellis Island, New York, Christmas Day in 1919, at the age of four. One of the happiest and proudest moments of her long life was when she was granted U.S. citizenship. She enjoyed the music, language, culture and heritage of her native Italy.
She was the last of her immediate family and was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Washington.
Surviving are two daughters, Connie (John) Marano and Carol Ann (Leonard) Koupiaris, both of Washington; five grandchildren, John “Jay” Marano Jr., Jordan Koupiaris, Holly Ann (Mike) Innamorato, Nicole Koupiaris and Benjamin John Andy; two great-grandchildren, Marley Jo Andy and Giovanni Innamorato; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her husband, Bennie Andy, who died in 1990; a son, John B. Andy, in 1990; an infant daughter; three sisters, Frances Gaulteri, Mickelina Catherine and Filemena Colosi; and two brothers, Stefano and Steve Zaccaria.
Friends will be received from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday in Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, October 21, in Immaculate Conception Church, 135 West Chestnut Street, Washington, with the Rev. William Feeney as celebrant. Interment will be private.
