Donald A. Anchors, 75, passed peacefully at home on October 14, 2013.
Born in Washington, Mr. Anchors was a resident of Bethel Park.
A son of Donald Brownlee Anchors and Hannah Elizabeth Anthony Anchors of Washington, he was a distinguished graduate of Washington and Jefferson College, involved in the Pershing Rifles and ROTC.
After serving as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Fort Devens, Mass., and a tour in the transportation corps. in Orleans, France, Mr. Anchors was employed by Industrial Appraisal Company and worked in mortgage banking and real estate in Pittsburgh.
He was an elder and trustee at Sunset Hills and Southminster Presbyterian Churches and served in Mt. Lebanon Jaycees and the Mt. Lebanon planning commission board.
Mr. Anchors belonged to small nurture groups at Southminster Presbyterian Church, Duncan Miller Society and the Parkinson’s Association of Western Pennsylvania.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Schaffer Anchors, and daughters, Jodi (Henry) Cathey, Julie (Kurt) Foreman and Janet (William) Trombetta. He was “Pap” to Elizabeth and Sarah Cathey, Rebecca, Emma, Nathan, and Thomas Foreman, and Annie, Katie and Joey Trombetta.
Private burial arrangements are entrusted to Laughlin Memorial Chapel, Mt. Lebanon.
All are welcome to a celebration of his life, to be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, in Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Southminster Presbyterian Church Youth Mission and Youth Music Mission.
