Vera M. Horner, 85, of Houston, died Saturday, October 19, 2013, in the Golden Living Center, Canonsburg.
She was born August 17, 1928, in Dubois, a daughter of James J. and Ruth Inghram Ledger.
Mrs. Horner had worked as the secretary of the family business, Horner Heating and A.C., and worked at the former Canonsburg Pottery.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Houston.
Mrs. Horner enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren as well as listening to Elvis and country music.
On June 10, 1946, she married Albert C. Horner, who passed away June 7, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Albert M. “Mike” Horner (Tracy) of Houston; a daughter, Lori Tharp of Houston; eight grandchildren, Michael Horner (Brandi) and Robert Tharp (Alyssa), both of Washington, Marie Denny, Jennifer Horner (Ty), Samantha Denny (Chris), Josh Traeger and Joseph Templeton, all of Houston, and A.J. Horner (Kristy) of Strabane; nine great-grandchildren, Charles Stevens, Dylon Sprowls, Jada, Brayden and Hayley Horner, Nathan Gooch, Dimari and Aszha Denny and Serenity Tharp; three brothers, David “Bucky” Ledger (Patricia) of Canonsburg, Orlando “Buddy” Bruno and Irvin Burno (Judy), both of Holland, Ohio; a sister, Barbara Jean Mahramus of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, James Ledger, and a sister, June Hood.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, with Pastor Max Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
