Slovan resident lived in North Braddock

Virginia “Jeannie” Zito McAvoy, 90, of Slovan, formerly a longtime resident of North Braddock, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013.

She was born in Braddock on June 7, 1923, a daughter of Antonio R. and Maria Concetta Chiodo Zito.

On October 3, 1941, she married John H. McAvoy, who died in 2007.

Mrs. McAvoy is survived by her son, Daniel (Julia) McAvoy of Slovan; granddaughters Rachel, Hannah and Abigail McAvoy; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, are her infant son, John Anthony McAvoy; her sisters, Angela Boyle and Elizabeth “Betty” McClafferty; and her brothers, Frederick Zito, Ross Zito and Tony Zito.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m., the time of blessing service, Monday, in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, with the Rev. Bob Staszewski officiating. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, in All Saints Cemetery, Braddock. All are asked to meet at the cemetery chapel.
