Theadora J. Ftaklas

Had a passion for life, spirtual love of her church

Theadora J. Ftaklas, 74, of Canonsburg, died Monday, October 21, 2013, in her home.

She was born November 18, 1938, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a daughter of the late Yianni and Stamatia Matsis Ftaklas. Her parents were her guides and blessed her with unconditional love. They let her be free.

Ms. Ftaklas led a blessed life full of good choices of career, with loving friends, relatives and most of all the light of her life, spiritual child and godchild, Teresa Magdalena Bane.

Her career spanned over 20 years with Marc Advertising as Personnel Services Director under the leadership and mentorship of CEO Louis J. Cardamone. She also had various other positions as her career grew. She volunteered at Western Center upon retirement and had fond memories of the clients there.

Ms. Ftaklas had a love of art, theater, books and reading veraciously all materials of knowledge. She also loved to travel and loved various cultures, especially Kremasti, Rhodes and Greece.

Her relatives, both in America and Greece, were her beloved and extended family. They include Georgia Trikkas (George), Sylvia Shaheen (Jim), John Matsis (Rebecca), Ruby Matsis Rood (Bobby), Audrey and George Matsis, the Rev. George Matsis, Theadora Maris (Elias), Margie Kostaglou (Demetri), Fengara Panagiotis, Sotiris (Katerina), Seva Bolas (Greece) Demetri and family, Nick Matsis (Eletheria) and family. Her young cousins, Maria Paxos (Mike), Debbie Guyot (Paul), Arista Tzouloufis (Dennis) and their beautiful children, Debbie, JimmyJo and Dr. Nick, Alicia (Tom), Michael (Jennifer). Also surviving are Alexia, Nick, Olivia, James, Joey, Christopher, Jenna, Tyler, Gia, Nicholas, Brennan, Alexandra, and Michael, Christine Kontomanoli, cousin, and George Kontos (Mary).

Her beloved godchild, Teresa, helped her, loved her and cheered on her life, as well as Rose Marie Bane, her dear friend and koumbara.

Her beloved brother, Nicholas Ftaklas, died at three years old of Cooley’s leukemia.

She had a passion for life, a spiritual love of her church, All Saint’s Greek Orthodox, and her spiritual father, the Rev. George Livanos. She lived life to the fullest and passed to life eternal. All is well. Celebrate her life, she did.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director. Trisagion services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Additional visitation wil be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of services, Thursday, October 24, in All Saint’s Greek Orthodox Church, 601 West McMurray Road, Canonsburg, with the Rev. George Livanos celebrating. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg. Memorials are requested to Saint Phanourios Chapel, All Saint’s Greek Orthodox Church, 601 West McMurray Road, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
