Bentworth School District teacher

Linda Yartin Hudock McCracken, 65, of Scenery Hill, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital.

She was born November 22, 1947, in Monessen, a daughter of the late Andy and Dorothy Rendos Yartin.

Mrs. McCracken was a 1965 graduate of West Newton High School, where she was valedictorian of her class. She received her bachelor’s degree in special education from California University of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. McCracken started her career at Intermediate Unit I and later taught for more than 30 years in Bentworth School District, where she worked with children with learning disabilities, until her retirement in 1999. Most recently, she served as a substitute teacher in Bentworth School District.

For 23 years, she was a member of Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scenery Hill, where she was a member of the church council. She was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association-Retired.

She was an avid reader, animal lover and was actively involved in the Scenery Hill Community and the National Pike Festival.

On July 27, 1991, she married William “Skip” McCracken, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, is a daughter, Charlynne Dicks (William) of West Brownsville; a son, Kenyon McCracken of Scenery Hill; a sister, Andrea Yartin of Monessen; a brother, Andrew Yartin (Cathy) of Monessen; and two nephews, Michael and Matthew Yartin.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 28, with the Rev. Peter Asplin officiating. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Monessen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty Four, PA 15330, or Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 2128 E.ast National Pike, Scenery Hill, PA 15360.
