John E. Boyce, 75, of Monongahela, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, in his home.
He was born August 20, 1938, in New Eagle, a son of the late Walter E. and Thelma McCarty Boyce.
Mr. Boyce retired from the former Western Pennsylvania Water Company, where he worked as a meter reader and plant operator.
He was a 1957 graduate of Monongahela High School.
Mr. Boyce served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1967 and was stationed in Korea.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Monongahela, a member and past master of the Henry M. Phillips Masonic Lodge 337 in Monongahela, Association of Masonic Veterans, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Legion of Honor, Carroll Township American Legion Post 949 and Monongahela Fire Department.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Sickenberger Boyce, whom he married February 12, 1960; a son, John D. Boyce (Deanna Kennedy) of Canonsburg; a daughter, Jonna J. Ferrance of Monongahela; a sister, Kathleen Boyce of Monongahela; two grandsons, Trevor and Logan Ferrance; cousins Grant and Esther McCarty of New Eagle; sister-in-law Mary Alice Boyce of Monongahela; and special friends the Rev. David and Donna Smoley of Erie.
Deceased are a brother, Walter D. Boyce; an uncle, Leroy Boyce; and an aunt, Ida V. Boyce.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, www.marshallmarrafuneralhome.com. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, in First United Methodist Church, 430 West Main Street, Monongahela, with the Rev. Ronald Fleming and the Rev. Donald Smoley co-officiating. Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery. The Henry M. Phillips Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, and Mon-Valley Honor Guard and Firing Squad will conduct funeral honors at the cemetery.
