Order of the Eastern Star member
Louise Kiger Bonar Behrens, 101, of Wheeling, W.Va., passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013.
She was born October 20, 1912, on the Reed Farm in Ohio County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Cephas and Hannah Kiger.
Mrs. Behrens retired after 27 years as a switchboard operator and mail clerk for West Liberty State College.
For more than 50 years, she was a member and past matron of Order of the Eastern Star chapter 51 and Bethany chapter 74. She was also a member of Triadelphia United Methodist Church.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her first husband, Willis E. Bonar; her second husband, Lloyd E. Behrens; two sisters, Mary M. Creighton and Ida M. Stollar; and six brothers, her twin Louis, William, John, Irvin, and twins Sherman and infant Furman Kiger.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine L. Billie (Robert) of St. Ignatius, Mont.; a granddaughter, Tammy Miller of St. Ignatius; a great-granddaughter, Amanda Miller of Pablo, Mont.; two great-great-granddaughters, Cecily and Paige; several nieces and nephews; and beloved friends throughout the Wheeling area.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Dallas, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mrs. Behrens to donor’s choice.

Loretta Cheek, 80, of Waynesburg, formerly of Aleppo Township, Greene County, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Fourth Presbyterian Church member
Sarah Jane Hildreth, 87, of Washington, died Monday, October 28, 2013, in her home.
She was born January 9, 1926, in Wyland, a daughter of George and Blanche McFall Burgh.
After graduating from Washington High School, Mrs. Hildreth worked as a Bell Telephone operator in Florida for a couple of years before becoming a homemaker.
She was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, where she was a former deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member and past officer of the church’s Ladies Aid Society.
Mrs. Hildreth enjoyed reading and family get-togethers, where she was always the hostess.
On April 13, 1946, she married Thomas M. Hildreth, who died November 23, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Leichty and Paula Jones, both of Washington; a brother, Robert E. Burgh (Linda) of Prosperity; three grandchildren, Jackie Newman (Chad), Julie Havanis and Joshua Jones; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Newman, Ethan Newman, Forrest Havanis and Gibson Havanis; and a sister-in-law, niece and nephew in Macon, Ga.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a son, Charles D. Hildreth; three brothers, Tawrence “Bud,” Richard and Albert Burgh; and four sisters, Hazel Stewart, Helen Groves, Catherine Capo and Dorothy Rumbaugh.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Thursday, October 31, in Fourth Presbyterian Church, Washington, with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Woodruff Memorial Park, Canonsburg.

Elco resident
Pauline P. Huber, 98, of Elco, passed away peacefully Monday, October 21, 2013, surrounded by her loving family, in Justine’s Personal Care Home, Allenport.
She was born January 10, 1915, in Roscoe, a daughter of the late Cosimo and Maria Ferrere Polizzi.
Mrs. Huber was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Roscoe, Council of Exceptional Children, American Association of University Women (California branch), Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and American Legion Post 801 Auxiliary.
After attending Roscoe public schools and California High School, she went to California Teachers College, where she proudly received one of the first special education teaching degrees.
Education was extremely important in her life. She had a rewarding career as a devoted teacher at Hilltop School in Jessup, Md., Washington public schools, Monongahela public schools and California public schools.
In her free time, she always enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Left to cherish wonderful memories are daughters Paula Anderson and husband James of Washington and Gail Abercrombie and husband Martin of Elco, with whom she resided; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Nancy Huber of Naperville, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her husband, William T. Huber; son J. William Huber; sisters Lucretia Inserra, Virginia Sargent Janus and Mary Santariello; and brother Frank Polizzi.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Melenyzer-DuBarr Funeral Homes and Cremation Services Inc., 1008 Furlong Avenue, Roscoe, where a prayer service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, October 31, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roscoe, with the Rev. Mike Zavage officiating. Interment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center. American Legion Post 801 Auxiliary will conduct their service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Former teacher enjoyed reading
Judith Tanner Mann, 70, of Carmichaels, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born November 25, 1942, in Morgantown, a daughter of the late Ira Wayne and Opal Marie Jones Tanner.
Mrs. Mann was a 1960 graduate of Mapletown High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from California State Teacher’s College and a master’s degree from Potomac State College of West Virginia University at Kaiser, W.Va.
Mrs. Mann taught in Annapolis, Md., King George County, Va., Spotsylvania, Va. and Cumberland, Md. Later, she worked at the former First Federal of Carnegie in Carmichaels and retired in 1992 from the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, Waynesburg.
She enjoyed reading, listening to Elvis’ music, flower arranging and arts and crafts.
On April 10, 1966, she married Charles H. Mann, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jeffrey C. Mann, at home; a brother, David Wayne Tanner of Greensboro (Mapletown); and several cousins.
Family and friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Wednesday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels. The Rev. John W. Hodge will officiate. Graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 31, in Fairview-Kiger Cemetery, Whiteley Township, Greene County.

Army National Guard veteran
John Allen Pettit, 78, of Washington, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, in his home.
He was born November 16, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late John Thomas and Gail Jinkens Pettit.
Mr. Pettit was a 1953 graduate of Trinity High School.
On January 29, 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard, where he served until he was transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves January 28, 1957. He was called to active duty September 4, 1957, and served until his honorable discharge August 26, 1959. Mr. Pettit completed his U.S. Army Reserve obligation June 26, 1962.
Mr. Pettit worked for Molycorp Inc. as a millwright.
He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 22 and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
His first wife, Constance McConnell, died October 29, 1991.
On November 27, 1999, he married Mary Cummins Williams, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Chrystal (Timothy) Ott of Quincy, Ill., Terry Pettit of Washington and Kelly (Brian) Rothermund of West Alexander; four stepdaughters, Susan Poland of Washington, Sheri (Mike Gizzoni) Williams of Washington, Sheila (Dan) Bryner of Avella and Stacey (Bill) Beatty of West Alexander; three sisters, Frances Loar of DuBois, Linda Riggins of Washington and Colleen (Tim) Johnson of St. Clairsville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Timothy (Amber) Ott, Ian (Alecia) Rothermund and Alex and Michael Ott; six stepgrandchildren, Mark Bryner, William (Dasha) Bryner, Brad Poland, Eric Poland, Isaac Beatty and Jerrod Williams; and two great-great-grandchildren, Luke Poland and Liam Rothermund.

Corbit P. Scarff, 93, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, in Vincentian Home.

Greene County resident enjoyed family time
Delores “Lori” Tharp, 60, of Graysville, died unexpectedly at 8:41 a.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born July 11, 1953, in East Meadow, N.Y., a daughter of the late Austin Rhodes Jr. and Effie Jeanette Holland Rhodes.
She had resided in the Crabapple and Graysville areas of Greene County for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Tharp attended Baldwin High School, Baldwin, N.Y.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
On December 9, 1972, she married Terrance Edward Tharp Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Tammy Tharp, companion of Jason Eddy, and Christina, wife of Christopher Evans, both of Cameron, W.Va., Nancy, wife of Michael Little, of Waynesburg, and Crystal, wife of Hezikiah Jones, of Brave; two sons, Terrance E. Tharp Jr., companion of Debra Calvert, of Waynesburg, and Randy, husband of Courtney Tharp, of Kenosha, Wis.; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Eileen, wife of Duane Ealy, of Behemia, N.Y., Carol, wife of Calvin Hansen, of Levittown, N.Y., and Jeanette, wife of Joseph Hoffman, of Riverhead, N.Y.; three brothers, Doug Rhodes of New York, Joseph, husband of Cookie Rhodes, of Copeg, N.Y., and Austin Rhodes of Mooresville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are a brother, James, and a sister, Shirley Rhodes, who both died in infancy.
