Enjoyed crocheting, raising flowers, cooking and music

Loretta Cheek, 80, of Waynesburg, formerly of Aleppo Township, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., following a brief illness. She will be sadly missed by her many friends.

She was born May 8, 1933, in Ryerson Station, Richhill Township, Greene County, a daughter of the late Harold Edward and Edith Evelyn Phillips Cunningham.

She resided in Aleppo Township for 42 years, prior to moving to Waynesburg in April 2012.

Mrs. Cheek attended the former Center Township High School in Rogersville and attended Waynesburg Bible Chapel in Waynesburg.

She served as a notary in Aleppo for 25 years, a judge of elections in Aleppo for four years, and was a caretaker for the elderly for 33 years, prior to retiring in 2012.

She enjoyed crocheting, raising flowers and cooking and loved music.

On November 3, 1952, she married Wylie Franklin Cheek Sr., who died July 1, 2006.

Surviving are four daughters, Sharon, wife of Dennis Blouir, and Jackie, wife of Chuck Stoneking, both of Holbrook, Dee, wife of Tink Eisiminger, of Prosperity and Lori, wife of Jim Cowie, of Greensboro; two sons, Richard, husband of Candy Cheek and Wylie F. Cheek Jr., husband of Terry Cheek, both of Wind Ridge; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia, wife of Bill Phillips, of Ruff Creek; a brother, Bobbie, husband of Debbie Cunningham of Chisolm, Minn.; three stepsisters, Edis Hamilton of Moundsville, W.Va., Cathy Tustin of Rocklick, W.Va., and Joyce, wife of Fred Fryman, of Martins Ferry, Ohio; a step-brother, Roger, husband of Mary Cunningham of Cameron, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a daughter, Wyletta Stewart; a granddaughter, Kalah Cheek; and a brother, Phillip Cunningham.

Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 1. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Richhill Township, Greene County.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the donor’s local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
