Sam “Simo” Telegraphis, 78, of Monongahela, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born May 21, 1935, in Monessen, a son of Thomas and Irene Tzazella Telegraphis.

Mr. Telegraphis had worked at the former Combustion Engineering in Monongahela, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and then retired in 2000 as a custodian for the Ringgold School District.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen.

Mr. Telegraphis enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching the Steelers and Pirates play, going to flea markets, planting flowers, gardening and going to the Y.M.C.A. in the mornings.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Sandra Fenwick Telegraphis, whom he married May 6, 1962; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy Telegraphis and Brian Telegraphis, all of Monongahela; three grandchildren, Cody, Alaina and Adam Telegraphis; a sister, Kula Telegraphis of Monessen; a twin brother, Steve Telegraphis of Lordstown, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his dog, Cassie.

Deceased are two brothers, Alfonso and Anthony Telegraphis; and a sister, Mary Telegraphis.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess Street, Monongahela, 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com, where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A Trisagion service will begin at 9:15 a.m. Friday, November 1, in the funeral home, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Monessen, with Fr. Joseph DiStefano. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.
