Lois E. Jones
World War II veteran
Lois E. Jones, 89, of Jefferson, died Monday, October 28, 2013, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
She was born June 13, 1924, in Khedive, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elbin Grooms.
Her first husband, Donald Palmer, is deceased. On May 28, 1968, she married Harley N. “Hal” Jones, who survives.
Mrs. Jones retired from S.C.I.-Greene County, where she worked as a corrections officer. She also worked as a court clerk in Arizona.
She was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Women’s Army Corps of U.S. Army.
A former resident of Arizona, she had lived in Jefferson since 1978. She was a member of American Legion Post 954 in Jefferson.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Donald “Randy” Palmer of Hawaii; a stepson, Alan Jones of Toronto, Ontario; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister, Aldene Bruckner of Jefferson; and a brother, Charlie Grooms.
Deceased are a son, Jeff Palmer; a sister, Phyllis Thomas; and a brother, Wilbur “Bud” Grooms.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon to 1 p.m., the time of service, Saturday, November 2, in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, with military honors by American Legion Post 954.
