Lifelong member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish
Helen (Macina) Machinak, 94, of Waynesburg, formerly of Fredericktown, died Monday, September 2, 2013, in Southwest Regional Medical Center, Waynesburg.
She was born December 29, 1918, in Leechburg, a daughter of the late Adam and Anna Krisovsky Kristopovich.
Mrs. Machinak was a lifelong member of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown.
She loved her grandchildren and enjoyed storytelling, cooking, gardening, reading, science and nature. She loved music, particularly classical music, and was especially interested in nutrition and environmental issues. She lived a green lifestyle before green was fashionable.
Her husband, John (Macina) Machinak, died in 1996.
Surviving are five children, David Machinak (Evelyn) of Clarksville, Donna Morosky (Kenneth) of Waynesburg, Elaine Posten of Waynesburg, Christopher Machinak of Fredericktown and Dolly Long (David) of Shrewsbury, Mass.; 10 grandchildren, Darla Marie Mylan, Dawn Renee Murray, Stefanie Morosky Kelly, Michelle Ward, John Morosky, James Morosky, Heather Posten, John Posten, Sarah Machinak and Charles Long; four great-grandchildren, Aaron and Molly Mylan and Zachary and Emma Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, James Machinak; granddaughter Rachel Machinak; six sisters, Stella Armstrong, Verna Passarella, Betty Thornberry, Mary Lawrence, Ann Mickolajczyk and Sophie Packrall; and a brother, Edward Kristy. Mrs. Machinak was the last of her immediate family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 5, in St. Michael Archangel Church of St. Oliver Plunkett Parish, Fredericktown, with Rev. Paul Gruenbach as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
