William H. “Bill” Winston, 84, of Washington, died Thursday, August 29, 2013, in Humbert Lane Health Care Centre, South Strabane Township, after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 15, 1928, in Washington, a son of the late William D. Wise and Caroline Winston.
Mr. Winston was a member of Wright Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Washington.
He was employed for 37 years at Jessop Steel until his retirement.
Mr. Winston enjoyed taking care of his tropical fish, of which he had many throughout his life.
He was a member of Washington Elks and Fraternal Order of Masons.
Mr. Winston served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953.
Surviving are five children, son William James Winston of Washington and daughters Tawana Winston of Washington, Gloria (Fred) Reio of Florida, Karen Johnson of Georgia and Marian (Burl) Nichols of Canonsburg; three sisters, Laura Henderson of Arizona, Betty Bohanon of Ohio and Wilma E. Wise of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two grandchildren, Shawna Davis and Michael Reio; five brothers, Nate, Charles, Floyd, Arthur and John Winston; and three sisters, Sara Brown, Alta Liggons and Violoia Vincent.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Wright Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 150 North Lincoln Street, Washington. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 5, in the church with the Rev. Louis Ridgley officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, 331 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the U.S. Army. All floral arrangements should be delivered to the church Wednesday.
