George D. “Buddy” Scott Bates, 70, of Washington, died August 31, 2013, in Presbyterian SeniorCare.
He was born December 19, 1942, in Canonsburg, a son of the late George and Laura Anderson Bates.
Mr. Bates served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Following his tour of duty, he married his wife, Francis and they settled in Long Beach, Calif., where he worked many years restoring vintage cars and hot rods and as a driver for Senior Access. He returned to Washington in 2012, where he lived in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare.
He is survived by a sister, Amelia Jackson of Canonsburg; a brother William Bates of Mt. Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Friday, September 6, in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342 with the Rev. Walter F. Lober, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
