Theodore W. “Ted” Hrutkay, 76, of Bentleyville, died Thursday morning, September 5, 2013, in his home.
He was born April 22, 1937, in the family home in Bentleyville, a son of the late Leopold and Mary Toshak Hrutkay.
Mr. Hrutkay was a graduate of Bentleyville High School.
A self-employed farmer who worked the family farm, Mr. Hrutkay also worked for Nello L. Teer and Atlas Construction companies.
He was a man of few words and enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, playing cards and going to Potter County to his Big Valley Hunting Camp.
Mr. Hrutkay was a member of the U.S. Steel Workers Association, Washington County Cattlemen’s Association and Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association. He received the Conservation Farmer of the Year award in 2007.
Mr. Hrutkay was a stockholder in the Washington County Agricultural Fair.
On June 11, 1966, at the former Ebenezer Methodist Church, he married Becky L. Shultz, who survives.
Also surviving are sons Brian Hrutkay of Bentleyville and Keith Harger (Carolyn) of Yulee, Fla.; grandchildren Kalvin Hrutkay and Matt, Emily, Megan, Abigail and Anna Harger; stepgranddaughters Brook and Jacqueline Wickers; sister-in-law Donna Shultz of Elizabeth; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are brothers John, Albert and Joseph Hrutkay, Paul Max and Leopold Hrutkay, who died in infancy, and sisters Susan Mascara, Ella Fava, Cecilia Damich and Mary Machaj.
Friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, 724-239-2255, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, with the Rev. Edward L. Yuhas officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery, Fallowfield Township.
