Vietnam veteran loved his Boston bull terriers
Joseph Franklin Allshouse II, 60, of Claysville, died Thursday, September 5, 2013, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born February 5, 1953, in Butler, a son of the late Clarence Allshouse and Arlene Campbell Allshouse McCracken.
A Vietnam veteran, Mr. Allshouse served in the Army from February 18, 1970, until his honorable discharge March 9, 1972, as a specialist 4th class. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Commendation Medal with device and overseas bar.
He worked as a service technician for Shearer Heating and Cooling.
Mr. Allshouse was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Washington, Wounded Warriors in Washington and Disabled American Veterans of Pittsburgh. He also belonged to Claysville Legion and Paralyzed Veterans of America – Keystone in Pittsburgh.
He loved the wheelchair games and his beloved Boston bull terriers.
On December 22, 1990, he married Linda Butler, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Craig Szygenda of Washington; two daughters, Genie Sumney (Dennis) of Old Town, Fla., and Jodie Dondineau (Nathan) of Jackson, Mich.; three stepdaughters, Terri Janssen and Leigh Douglas (Alan), both of Georgia, and Jonie Gump (Mark) of Amwell Township; a brother, Gene Allshouse (Laura) of Arizona; a sister, Kim Demski (Alan) of Claysville; a stepbrother, Jay McCracken (Patty) of Washington; two stepsisters, Judy Silvers (Bob) of Washington and Sandy Lowther (Jay) of Washington; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Ricky Rood, and his stepfather, John McCracken.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 15, in Claysville American Legion, Main Street, Claysville. Hunt-Kennedy American Legion Post 639 will accord military rites at the private inurnment in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
