Laura Jean Gault Groomes passed away Monday, September 2, 2013, after a short illness.
She was a daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Hetherington Gault of Bentleyville.
Prior to retiring to Indiantown, Fla., she raised her family in Guilderland, N.Y., and taught English in South Colonie Central School District.
A graduate of Indiana State Teachers College, she was a member of Theta Sigma Upsilon sorority. She began her teaching career in Albion and received her master’s degree in education from the State University of New York at Albany. In her retirement, she lived at Indianwood Golf Community and served on the board of directors of Elisabeth Lahti Library in Indiantown.
Prior to her move nine months ago to Abington, she was an avid golfer, reader, writer, lifelong learner and pie baker.
Deceased are her husband, Donald L. Groomes, a daughter, Jilda C. Palmer; and a sister, Gail Ellis.
Survivors include daughters Lisa Groomes of Philadelphia and Beth Zampol of Schenectady, N.Y.; and granddaughters Stephanie Palmer of Queens, N.Y., Karen Palmer Heil of Burlington, Vt., and Alison Groomes-Klotz and Zoe Groomes-Klotz, both of Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions may be made to Martin County Library System, Stuart, Fla., or to Abington Memorial Home Care and Hospice.
