Warren G. Piatt

WWII veteran, retired rural mail carrier

Warren G. Piatt, 92, of Washington, died Saturday, September 7, 2013, in Southmont of Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington. 

He was born February 4, 1921, in West Bethlehem Township, Marianna, a son of the late William and Ida Grable Piatt. 

Mr. Piatt was a graduate of West Bethlehem Township High School and a 1939 graduate of Penn State Commercial Business School with a degree in accounting. 

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he enlisted in October 1942 and served with the 80th Division 314th Field Artillery Battalion. During his three years and three months of service, he was in the European Theater for 18 months. He was honorably discharged December 14, 1945. 

He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church. 

After returning from the service, he worked for Manrow and Nevin Sheet Metal, Heating and Roofing for 12 years, carried mail on rural delivery No. 4 in Washington for 23 years and later drove a special education van for Trinity Area School District for 10 years. 

On May 11, 1946, he married Jane Baker, who survives.   

Also surviving are three sons, Kenneth, John and Bill Piatt, all of Washington; a brother, John Piatt of Butler; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

Deceased are two brothers, William Piatt and Joseph Piatt. 

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 10.
