U.S. Army veteran
Paul Michael Pivarnik, 78, of Fallowfield Township, passed away peacefully in his home Thursday, September 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Pivarnik was born June 29, 1935, in Fallowfield Township, a son of the late John and Margaret Hlavko Pivovarnik.
He was Lutheran.
Mr. Pivarnik retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, Allenport Plant, after over 40 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. While serving in the Army, he was selected to serve with the Army Security Agency and made the rank of SP2.
Mr. Pivarnik was a member of the American Legion Post 165, Bentleyville.
He enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers and especially spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Sarah (Jean) Sisley Pivarnik; three daughters, Deb Babirad (John) of Bentleyville, Carol Gibson (Mark Polinski) of North Charleroi and Linda Pivarnik at home; two brothers, Jack Pivovarnik of Ellsworth and Joseph Pivarnik of Carrick; four grandchildren, Penny Mensing (Alex), Ben Babirad (Leslie), Dewey Hall (Bree) and Llenelle Gibson; and three great-grandchildren, Lydia Mensing, Sandra Hall and Kalli Babirad.
Deceased is a grandson, John Paul Babirad.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 p.m., the time of service, Monday, September 16, in Leonard M. Pavlic Funeral Home Inc., 235 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, with Pastor Kenneth Custer. The American Legion Post 165 will hold services and military honors at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
