May 31, 1920 – September 14, 2013

Kathryn H. Craig, 93, of Canonsburg, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington, following a brief illness.

She was born May 31, 1920, in Centerville, a daughter of the late William Winfield and Emma Bane Hendershot.

Mrs. Craig lived most of her life in the Canonsburg and Houston areas and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Houston for more than 50 years.

She had been employed at Drakenfeld Corp. during World War II and prior to her retirement was a secretary at South Hills Eye Associates.

On November 7, 1941, she married John Craig, who passed away May 8, 2000.

Surviving are two daughters, Kristy (Joe) Smydo of Scenery Hill and Terry Craig of Canonsburg; a brother, Harold (Ethel) Hendershot of Scenery Hill; seven grandchildren, Joe (Judy) Smydo, Matt (Marissa) Smydo, Jason Smydo, David (Jocelin) Smydo, Rachel (Chad) McWreath, Joshua (Briana) Smydo and Sarah (Nathan) Cale; four great-grandchildren, Nick, Alyssa, Taylor and Anna Smydo; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two brothers, Billy and Melvin Hendershot; and two sisters, Ruth Emler and Virginia Burnfield.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, with the Rev. Clara Jean Haury officiating. Private interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Craig’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to a 5-year-old kidney cancer patient, Addalynne Morrison, 111 Hedge Road, Jefferson, PA 15344.

Former Waynesburg resident

Peggy L. Foley went to be with her Lord Saturday, September 14, 2013.

She was a native of Waynesburg and a 1977 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School.

Mrs. Foley graduated from West Virginia Career College.

She was employed at Arcadis in Newport News, Va., at the time of her death.

Mrs. Foley was a member of World Outreach Worship Center and Denbigh Church of God of Newport News, where she sang in the choir and praise team.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Chester H. Thomas Sr. and Lucille E. Thomas; and brothers Pete and Danny Thomas.

Surviving are her husband and best friend of 33 years, Tim R. Foley; a daughter, Jamie Foley Inscoe and husband Mike; a son, Todd Foley; five brothers, Dave Thomas and wife Gladys, Clyde (Ed) Thomas and wife JoAnne, Larry Thomas and wife Linda, Joe Thomas and wife Phyllis and Dennis Thomas; two grandchildren, Landon and Cody; father-in-law and mother-in-law, the Rev. William R. Foley and Darlene Foley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Peninsula Funeral Home, 11144 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA 23601, 757-595-4424. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September, 18, in WOW Center, Denbigh Church of God, 1233 Shields Road, Newport News, with burial following in Williamsburg (Va.) Memorial Park.

North Ten Mile Baptist Church member

Karen A. Johnson, 53, of Canonsburg, formerly of Amity, died Saturday, September 1, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born in Washington November 5, 1960, a daughter of John Lloyd Fowler and Dorothy I. Doty Dublin.

Ms. Johnson was a graduate of Trinity High School. She was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church. She served as president resident council at the Greenery in Canonsburg for years.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two sisters, Beverly Brown and Noreen Wicks; a brother, Stanley Fowler; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Deceased are her stepfather, James Dublin; and maternal grandparents, Ralph and Esther Doty.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington PA 15301, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 17. Robert J. “Pappy” Nemeth, 79, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

Stephen F. “Arky” Ondash Jr. 88, of Vestaburg, died Sunday, September 15, 2013, in Lasosky’s Personal Care Home, Clarksville.

Mary Palovich, 89, of Cokeburg, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, in her home.

Katherine Yazevac, 77, of Langeloth, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

She was born March 7, 1936, in Atlasburg, a daughter of the late George and Mary Gordon Matijevich.

Mrs. Yazevac, along with her husband, Alex, owned and operated Ace Reconditioners in Washington.

She was a Christian woman who enjoyed reading the Bible and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown. She also liked to cook and knit, but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving are a daughter, Janice (David) Duran of Bavington; three grandchildren, Alex, Travis and Katelyn Duran; a brother, Pete Matijevich of Bethel Park; two sisters, Mildred Golonka of Slovan and Stella Matijevich of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are her husband, Alexander J. Yazevac, who died January 9, 2005; a son, Joseph Yazevac; five brothers, John, Mike, George, Dan and Nick Matijevich; and a sister, Mary Kaminski.
