JoAnn Carpenter Bortz

JoAnn Carpenter Bortz, 72, of Waynesburg, formerly of Pittsburgh, died at 2:40 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2013, in Donnell House, Washington, after being seriously ill for the past four months.
She was born February 24, 1941, in Brave, a daughter of Roxanna Pearl Moore Carpenter of Uniontown and the late Joseph Irvin Carpenter.
Mrs. Bortz resided in the Pittsburgh area for 55 years prior to returning to Greene County in 2005.
She was an active member of WWJD Christian Center in Waynesburg, where she showed her love for her Lord as the church clerk, a former Sunday school teacher and church historian.
Mrs. Bortz enjoyed interior designing, genealogy, making jewelry, sewing and knitting.
She attended Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Bortz was last employed as a waitress by the former G.C. Murphy Co. and Rite Aid, both in the Greenfield section of Pittsburgh.
On June 12, 1985, she married Ronald Eugene Bortz, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, J.D., husband of Kim Trango of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Monica Roz of Burnside, Md.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Jean, wife of Fred Carter of Carmichaels and Linda Carpenter of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Wayne, husband of Wanda Carpenter of Uniontown, James, husband of Cathie Carpenter of Waynesburg, and Joseph, husband of Tammy Carpenter of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her father, is a sister, Roberta Crenshaw.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 20, with Pastors James and Cathie Carpenter co-officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
