Retired union bricklayer served in Army
Robert J. “Pappy” Nemeth, 79, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, September 14, 2013, in Canonsburg General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 4, 1934, in Laboratory, a son of the late Julius “Freckles” and Mary Kosey Nemeth.
Mr. Nemeth was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1952.
He served his country in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Nemeth was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg.
On August 10, 1963, he married his loving wife of 50 years, Rita Wozniak Nemeth of Canonsburg, who survives.
Prior to his retirement, he was a union bricklayer with Local 9 for 43 years.
He was a 4th-degree Knight with Knights of Columbus in Washington. He was the last living charter member of Tomahawk Hunting Lodge of Ridgway.
Mr. Nemeth was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Robert Jay Nemeth and wife Linda of Washington and Richard E. Nemeth and wife Ronda of Canonsburg; a brother, Arthur R. Nemeth and wife Linda of Washington; seven grandchildren, Alyssa and Meghan Nemeth, Christopher (Jacinda) Ritenour, Jeffrey (Bobbi Jo) Ritenour, David (Amanda) Ritenour, Jessica M (Justin) Schmitt and Kaitlin Capo; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Nemeth and Margot Nemeth Adams; a special cousin, Mary Zylo Baker; and a nephew, Jarrod (Melissa) Nemeth.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a brother, Daniel “Dimpy” Nemeth.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 19. Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, with full military rites accorded by combined honor guards of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 and American Legion Post 902.
