Ruth M. Wild, 90, of Portage, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, in Portage.
She was born January 3, 1923, in Sankertown, a daughter of Gerald and Olene Farren Inman.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are infant son Gerald; sister Rita Stein; brother the Rev. Leonard Inman; and daughter-in-law Cathy Davis Wild.
Surviving are her husband, John “Jack” Wild, to whom she was married for 67 years; children Robert Wild and wife Sally of Canonsburg, Karen wife of Jim Hurtack of Ebensburg and Thomas Wild and wife Becky of Washington. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Genevieve Feathers of Portage; and nephew Leonard Stein.
Mrs. Wild was totally devoted to her family. She was formerly employed as an administrative assistant for St. Joseph Catholic School in Portage, with 33 years of service.
Mrs. Wild and her husband, Jack, were famously known as the “Apple Dumpling Gang” for their delicious apple dumplings. She was an avid supporter of Catholic education.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Portage. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 21, in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Portage, with Father Andrew Draper, as celebrant. Committal will be held in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Cresson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to Bishop Carroll High School, Holy Name Catholic Grade School, both in Ebensburg, and/or John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Washington. Condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com.
