Army veteran, avid sports fan

Wesley J. “Wes” Beam, 64, of Canonsburg, formerly of McKeesport, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013, in Canonsburg General Hospital.

He was born August 15, 1949, in McKeesport, a son of the late Donald W. and Margy A. Zimmerman Beam.

Mr. Beam lived most of his life in McKeesport, where he was a graduate of McKeesport Area High School.

He was Methodist.

Mr. Beam had been employed for many years at U.S. Steel Irvin Works. He was last employed in security for Verizon.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, who received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Achievement for his service in the Republic of Viet Nam.

An avid sports fan, he loved music, crossword puzzles and enjoyed reading.

Surviving are a sister, Sheri (Mike) Mitchell of Canonsburg; a brother, Gary (Carol) Beam of North Strabane Township; and nieces and nephews, Brittany and Chad Mitchell and Caitlin, Allyson and Patrick Beam.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, with pastor Max Miller officiating. Interment will follow at 10 a.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Full military rites will be accorded by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston.
