Duane F. Flaherty, 72, of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Washington Hospital.
He was born September 18, 1941, in Pittsburgh, the son of Francis and Elizabeth Filipiak Flaherty.
Mr. Flaherty is survived by his wife, Linda Flaherty. They were married September 26, 1980, and would have celebrated their 33rd anniversary today.
Also surviving are his children, Karen (Dean) Herzog of Port Lucie, Fla., Sean (Cynthia) Flaherty of Needmore, Eric (Kristen) Flaherty of Cecil and Brian Engott of Houston; six grandchildren, Tiffany, Tyler, Liam, Noah, Matthew and Elizabeth; his sister, Karen Flaherty (Paul Persoff) of New York City, N.Y.; a niece, Lisa; and a nephew, Brandon.
Mr. Flaherty served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge, a board member of Arc of Washington, a board member of Kelso Beach Property Owners Association and a member of First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg, where he served as a trustee.
Mr. Flaherty was the owner/operator of Flaherty Opticians in Oakland for 42 years.
He enjoyed building street rods and woodworking.
Friends are welcome 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Beinhauer-Bogan Funeral Home, 164 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 28, in First United Methodist Church, Canonsburg, followed by interment in Oak Spring Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to American Diabetes Association, 100 W. Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
