Retired cook enjoyed gardening
George I. Burkett, 77, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, September 26, 2013, in his home.
He was born July 30, 1936, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Charles and Josephine Thomas Burkett.
Mr. Burkett was a member of Canonsburg United Presbyterian Church.
Prior to his retirement, he worked at Black Box Corp. as a cook and also cooked at Canonsburg General Hospital Snack Shop.
He enjoyed gardening and, especially, spending time with his granddaughter, Makenzie.
On January 8, 2000, he married Cheryl Finney, of Canonsburg, who survives.
Also surviving are a son and a daughter in Florida; two stepsons, James P. Hoffman of Newville and Matthew E. Hoffman of Delta; a stepdaughter, Mary Beth Hoffman of Canonsburg; a brother, Richard Ball of Carmichaels; a sister, Rachael Butt of Alabama; seven stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Dorothy Twardasky.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, Phillip L. Sollon, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 30. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
