Retired nurse enjoyed animals
Sandra Carter Sumang, 68, of Waynesburg, formerly of Holbrook, died at 10:10 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013, in West Virginia University Hospitals Inc., Ruby Memorial, Morgantown, W.Va., after suffering a stroke in mid-September.
She was born December 23, 1944, in Fairmont, W.Va., a daughter of the late Delbert and Violet Miner Miller.
Mrs. Sumang had resided in the Holbrook area from 1973 until moving to the state of Washington in 1995, where she resided until returning to Greene County in 2012.
She was employed as an licensed practical nurse at the former Curry Home in Waynesburg, Humbert Lane Nursing Home and Rehabilitation and the Brownson House, both in Washington, and a nursing home in the state of Washington for a total of more than 20 years combined service, prior to retiring in 2012 because of ill health.
Mrs. Sumang enjoyed all animals, singing, listening to country music and time spent with her grandchildren.
On April 17, 1973, she married Donald Eugene Carter, who died February 17, 1995, and was last married to Timothy Edwin Sumang, who died in 2011.
Surviving are a daughter, Malissa “Missy,” wife of John Black II of Holbrook, and two grandchildren, Devin and Brayden Black.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville.
Private interment will be held in Braddock Cemetery, Graysville.
