Vietnam War veteran raised birds

Kenneth L. Phillips, 76, of Sycamore, died 11:05 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2013, in Uniontown Hospital.

He was born Friday, April 23, 1937, in Jacktown, a son of the late Hallie Lee Phillips and Sadie Virginia Ross Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He enjoyed raising birds and pigeons and was a farmer.

Mr. Phillips was a school bus driver for McNelly Bus Co. in Waynesburg for more than 20 years.

Surviving are three sisters, Mary Thorne of Waynesburg, Virginia Kennedy of Sycamore and Edna Phillips Schrader of Spraggs, and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Helen Kelley and Nettie Morris Adams, and a brother, Robert F. “Dutchman” Phillips.

Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, the time of service, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Burial will be in Jefferson Cemetery.

Graveside military rites will be accorded by representatives of the U.S. Army and James Farrell American Legion Post 330 of Waynesburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the funeral home to help with expenses.
