Hugo J. Berardi, 89, of Nemacolin, died Saturday, February 1, 2014, in his home. A complete obituary will be published in a later edition.

Veteran was retired U.S. Post Office employee

George E. Bobko, 78, of Mather, died Saturday, February 1, 2014, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born April 7, 1935, in German Township, Fayette County, a son of the late John and Anna Urbany Bobko.

Mr. Bobko was a retired U.S. Post Office employee in Waynesburg, with more than 35 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Bobko was a member of St. Marcellus Roman Catholic Church of Jefferson, where he also served as custodian for several years.

On November 4, 1961, he married Dolores Severini, who survives. Also surviving a brother, Stephen J. Bobko of Farmville, Va., and several nieces and nephews.

A public Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, in St. Marcellus R.C. Church, Jefferson, with Father J. Francis Frazer as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 954, Jefferson, and the U.S. Army. Owned McMurray Dairy Bar with husband

Carol J. Duckworth, 62, of McMurray, died peacefully Friday, January 31, 2014.

She was born November 6, 1951, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Albert and Esther Brickner Opferman.

She was the beloved wife of Gary Duckworth for 38 years; loving mother of Kristin; stepmother of Sean; grandmother of Enzo and Timo; and sister of the late Ron Opferman.

Mrs. Duckworth, along with her husband, Gary, were co-owners of the Dairy Bar in McMurray.

Funeral arrangements are by Beinhauers, 724-941-3211. Friends are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, in St. Benedict the Abbot Church, McMurray. Interment is private.

Daisytown resident

James A. Hartley Sr., 76, of Daisytown, died Sunday, February 2, 2014.

He was born Monday, July 26, 1937, in California, a son of the late Frank A. and Sarah Coking Hartley.

Left to cherish his memory are his six children, Darla Beaumont and husband Dennis of Brownsville, James Hartley Jr. and wife Debbie of Vestaburg, Frank Hartley Sr. and wife Martha of Barberton, Ohio, Richard Hartley and wife Natalie of Brownsville, Carolyn Staley and husband Russell of West Brownsville, and Jamie Elliott and husband David of Brownsville; brother Thomas Hartley Sr. and wife Louise; sisters Ethel Brodak, Frances Volcheck and Shirley Harris and husband Edgar. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Lauren Beaumont, James Hartley III, Josh Hartley and wife Melissa, Frank Hartley Jr., Alyssa Hartley and fiancé Ryan Bulger, Angela Holp and husband Al Holp III, Rebecca Staley, Gabriel Elliott, and David Elliott Jr.; and six great-grandchildren, James A. Hartley IV, Christian Hartley, Nevaeh Hartley, R.J. Bulger, Aiden Hartley and Benjamin Hartley.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Ethel, on October 18, 2012; four brothers, Allen, Charles, Fred and Robert Hartley; and two sisters, Mary Jakubisn and Martha Chisler.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California. Addition visitation will be held until 11 a.m., the time of services, Wednesday, February 5, with the Rev. John Thomas officiating.

Interment will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill.

St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church member

Mildred Hruska, 94, of Carmichaels, died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Rolling Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation, Waynesburg.

She was born November 12, 1919, in Leisenring, a daughter of the late Joseph and Dora Marcus Baker.

Mrs. Hruska was resided in Carmichaels since 1941, where she was a member of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, St. Hugh Rosary Altar Society and St. Hugh Senior Activity Group.

On September 7, 1935, in New Salem, she married August J. Hruska, who died August 23, 2003.

Surviving are three daughters, Mildred Bair and her husband, John, of Carmichaels, Mary “Ibby” Levine and her husband, Howard, of Middletown, Md., and Barbara Smith and her husband, Robert, of Stafford, Va.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her siblings.

Deceased are a grandson, Richard Bair; five brothers, Martin Baker, Mike Baker, Joseph Baker, William Baker and Peter Baker; and five sisters, Helen David, Mary Mosier, Martha Vuicich, Anna Ozanich and Mollie DePace.

Family and friends are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, 724-966-5500, Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where a blessing service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 6, followed at 1:30 p.m. by a Mass of the Resurrection in St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church, Carmichaels, with the Rev. John M. Bauer as celebrant. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. A vigil service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Helen Jakubek, 85, of Strabane, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Donnell House, Washington.

U.S. Army veteran

Arthur Leroy Montgomery, 71, of Lone Pine, died at 11:02 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014, in his home with his family by his side.

He was born January 29, 1943, in Washington, a son of the late Ray E. and Elizabeth I. Earnest Montgomery. He was employed by Fairmont Supply, from where he retired.

Mr. Montgomery was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. He also was a member of the National Pike Steam Engine Association. He was a graduate of Trinity High School.

Mr. Montgomery enjoyed bowling, playing dart ball, and in his earlier years, enjoyed playing softball. He loved to work with his dad and brothers on steam engines.

He served in the U.S. Army, where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the Marksman (Rifle M-14) Badge.

In July 1974, he married Mary Ann Boris-Sachek, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Barry L. (Lisa) Sachek of Washington and Richard W. Sachek of Texas; a daughter, Leann Sachek of Washington; two brothers, Ray A. (Mary) Montgomery and Jerry (Carol) Montgomery; four grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew and Alexa Sachek and Jakob Burke; two great-grandchildren, D’avery Wells and Davin Cessna; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a nephew, Mark A. Montgomery.

Shirley M. Alexander O’Brien, 85, of Washington, died Sunday, February 2, 2014, in her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born August 3, 1928, in Washington, a daughter of the late Charles H. Sr. and Elizabeth Piatt Alexander.

Mrs. O’Brien was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church of Washington, where she was a member of the former “Two and Two” class.

She enjoyed quilting, hooking rugs and glass collecting. She was former president and secretary of the National Duncan Glass Society and a former member of Martha Washington Quilt Guild and National Duncan Glass Society Chapter No. 1.

On September 3, 1949, in First Christian Church, Washington, she married Francis P. O’Brien Jr., who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Francis P. (Diana) O’Brien III and Dennis C. (Mary) O’Brien Sr., both of Washington; two daughters, Patricia A. (Marshall) Gwilliam and Diane L. O’Brien, both of Washington; six grandchildren, Lori Stickle Ruben, Amy Matteson, Christy Gray, Jennifer Marsh, DJ O’Brien and Kate DeGarmo; four stepgrandchildren, Ralph and Wendy Gwilliam, Levi Curtis and Sadie Orr; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a great-grandchild; a brother, Charles H. Alexander; and two sisters, Lois J. Grose and Ruth B. Alexander.

Loved working his family farm

Frank L. Post Sr., 70, of Avella, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following complications from several strokes suffered over the past six months.

He was born October 7, 1943, in Washington, a son of the late Clarke Sprowls Post Sr. and Mary Griffith Dutton Post, and had resided on his home farm in Blaine Township all his life.

Mr. Post was a member of Claysville United Presbyterian Church and was a 1961 graduate of McGuffey High School.

He had a lifelong passion of caring for and working his family farm, The Two Post Farm, which he co-owned with his son.

Mr. Post was employed as a pipeline welder with Local 798, out of Tulsa, Okla., where he began as a welder’s helper, then broke out as a welder in 1972, retiring in 2008 with more than 50 years of service in the union. Following retirement, he was employed as a superintendent for Paris Construction on a pipeline crossing the family farm.

He had served as a delegate to United Association of Pipefitters and Steamfitters conventions for several years and had served as a steward and foreman for several pipeline contractors across the United States.

On August 27, 1983, he married Cheryll Lynn McCullough, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Frank L. Post Jr., husband of Kaylea Post of Avella; two daughters, Tammi, wife of Darrin Iams of West Alexander and Tega, wife of Josh George of Avella; three grandchildren, Kagin and Lexin Iams and Cason George; two brothers, John, husband of Patricia Post of Avella, and Clarke S. “Rob” Post Jr., husband of Nancy Post of Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Betsy Miller of Mesa, Ariz., and Mary Jo, wife of Mike Flory of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Claysville U.P. Church, Claysville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6. Interment will follow in Claysville Cemetery.

Enjoyed singing and playing the guitar

Samuel D. Yeager Sr., 52, of McDonald, died Friday, January 31, 2014.

He was born September 13, 1961, in Portland, Ore., a son of the late Earl C. and Betty J. Hayden Yeager.

Mr. Yeager was a journeyman machinist for Cannon Tool in Canonsburg for 24 years. He was a member of Muse Italian Club. He coached Hickory girls softball and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar.

On September 25, 1993, he married Jeannina “Nina” Liggitt, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Samuel D. (Melinda) Yeager Jr. of McDonald; two daughters, Shelby Yeager of McDonald and Erica Yeager of Maryland; a sister, Debra Yeager of Washington; four brothers, Michael and William Yeager of Texas, Greg Yeager of Mississippi and Donald Yeager of Washington; and three grandchildren, Ava, Violet and Zach Yeager.

Employee of Kurtz Bros. for 35 years

Blaine Walter Ziemba Jr., 66, of Thornton, Colo., formerly of Washington, died Monday, January 27, 2014, following a brief illness.

A son of the late Blaine Ziemba Sr. and Josephine Pozniak Ziemba of Johnstown, Mr. Ziemba was born September 5, 1947, in Johnstown. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

After graduating from Sul Ross State University in Texas, he worked for Kurtz Bros. in Clearfield for 35 years. He moved to Colorado, along with his wife, in June 2013 to be closer to their grandsons.

Mr. Ziemba enjoyed golf, traveling, hiking the Colorado Mountains, sports and playing ball with his grandsons.

In April 1972, he married Annette Kulic, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Brian Ziemba (Sam Pittman) of Pittsburgh; daughter Jennifer (Billy) Keith of Colorado; grandchildren Braden and Max Keith; brother Leonard (Karen) Ziemba of Johnstown; sisters Harriet Ziemba of Johnstown and Stephanie (David) Wright of Bethel Park; and several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director.
