Vietnam veteran, mechanic
Donald Ray Harper, 63, of Washington, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014.
He was born June 17, 1950, son of the late Shirley Harper. He was raised by the late John D. and Elsie Irene Harper. Mr. Harper served in the U.S. Army, and was a Vietnam War veteran. He worked for Schweinebraten and Mildon bus companies. He also worked at Marianna and Eighty Four mines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto mechanics and being a disc jockey at a number of local activities and family gatherings.
On November 28, 1970, Mr. Harper married Clara Gatling, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters, Alicia and Dawn Harper, both of Washington, Carmen Harper of Philadelphia and Candis (Jake) Dille of Washington; a brother, Walter L. Harper of Dover, Del.; 11 grandchildren, Kirsten, Lauren, Cordell, Taylor, Misha, Noah, Destiny, Michael, Tiarra, Kendra and Winter; a great-aunt, Jessie Garland of Michigan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Deceased are a brother, Frankie; a sister, Sylvia; an aunt; two uncles; and a niece.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, with Pastor Walter Cherry officiating.
