Mother and grandmother

Ellen Bowman, 86, of Canonsburg, died Monday, February 10, 2014, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center, South Strabane Township.

She was born March 16, 1927, in Metropolis, Ill., a daughter of the late Ray and Pearl Warick Griffey.

Ms. Bowman was Presbyterian. On December 9, 1944, she married Dorse E. Bowman, who passed away August 31, 2002.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Bowman and his wife Linda of Washington and Harold Bowman and his wife Sharon of Canonsburg; two brothers, Louis Griffey and his wife Pat of South Carolina and Elmer Griffey and his wife Louise of Elkheart, Ind.; a sister, Mary Griffey of Metropolis; five grandchildren, Mark, Alan and Todd Bowman, LeighAnn Geckle and Valarie Squire; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Gene Bowman of Canonsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband, are her son, Alan Bowman, and brothers Albert, Paul, Floyd, Revern and Lloyd Griffey.

There will be no public visitation. Services are private and entrusted to Sollon Funeral Home Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, J. David Sollon, supervisor, and Phillip L. Sollon, director.

Family owned Bryan’s Dairy

Frank Wood Bryan Sr., 81 , of Statesville, N.C., died Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Gordon Hospice House.

Mr. Bryan was born April 1, 1932, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Frank J. and Kathryn Hoskinson Bryan. He was retired after 25 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service and had also worked for many years at the family business, Bryan’s Dairy.

He had his private pilot license and when health permitted, enjoyed flying and traveling, as well as swimming and boating with family and friends. He loved building model airplanes and was an avid reader. He was Methodist.

Surviving are his wife, Lois Wiltrout Bryan, whom he married January 20, 1951; a daughter, Gloria J. (Andrew) Kuhar of Washington; three sons, Frank W. (Tammy) Bryan Jr. of Waynesburg, John(Lisa) Bryan of Mooresville, N.C., and Andy (Ronda) Bryan of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Betty Bryan Leskosky of Carmichaels; eight grandchildren, Shawn Elza, Frankie Bryan, Lee Bryan, Tyler Bryan, Amber Bryan, Seth Bryan, Carly Bryan and Caroline Bryan; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, deceased are an infant daughter, Patricia, and a grandson, Darryl Elza.

Master sergeant and golfer

William “Bill” Debreczeni, 92, passed away peacefully February 5, 2014, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y.

He was born December 30, 1921, in Daisytown, a son of Alexander Debreczeni and Elizabeth Gyure Debreczeni. He married Frances Kutz June 15, 1943, in Casper, Wyo. Formerly residents of Richeyville, he and Frances moved to Washington in 1972. In December 2012, he moved to Liverpool, N.Y., to be closer to his daughter, Bonnie.

A veteran of World War II, he served his country proudly as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army in both North Africa and Italy. As a long time member of Arms Club in Washington, he enjoyed the friendships created through many golf outings. His daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren will always be appreciative to club members for keeping an eye on “the old goat.”

Deceased is his wife of 58 years, Frances; his parents, Alex and Elizabeth Debreczeni; and his brothers, Alex Debreczeni Jr. and Joseph Debreczeni.

Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie (Jim) Chupaila; his grandchildren, Jared and Brooke Chupaila; his great-grandchildren, Mia and Jaxon Chupaila; his sisters, Helen Miscky and Betty Jane (Dave) Black; and his nieces and nephews.

A private service was held Tuesday, February 11, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Frank J. Dombrowski, 63, of Washington, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, in Washington Hospital.

Vietnam veteran, mechanic

Donald Ray Harper, 63, of Washington, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014.

He was born June 17, 1950, son of the late Shirley Harper. He was raised by the late John D. and Elsie Irene Harper. Mr. Harper served in the U.S. Army, and was a Vietnam War veteran. He worked for Schweinebraten and Mildon bus companies. He also worked at Marianna and Eighty Four mines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, auto mechanics and being a disc jockey at a number of local activities and family gatherings.

On November 28, 1970, Mr. Harper married Clara Gatling, who survives.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four daughters, Alicia and Dawn Harper, both of Washington, Carmen Harper of Philadelphia and Candis (Jake) Dille of Washington; a brother, Walter L. Harper of Dover, Del.; 11 grandchildren, Kirsten, Lauren, Cordell, Taylor, Misha, Noah, Destiny, Michael, Tiarra, Kendra and Winter; a great-aunt, Jessie Garland of Michigan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased are a brother, Frankie; a sister, Sylvia; an aunt; two uncles; and a niece.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, with Pastor Walter Cherry officiating.

Helen Matiyasic, 91, of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, in Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Homemaker and loving mother

Marilyn Loretta MtJoy, formerly of Nemacolin, died Monday, February 10, 2014, in Punxsutawney Area Hospital, following a brief illness.

Mrs. MtJoy was born April 30, 1930, in Grindstone, a daughter of the late Mary Catherine Bill and William “Bill” Ralko. She was a 1948 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and lived in Nemacolin until 1994, when she relocated to Punxsutawney to be closer to her son. She was a homemaker and loving mother.

Surviving are two sons, Robert (Sundra) MtJoy Jr. and Bruce MtJoy and Wanda Covatch; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, William Ralko of Livonia, Mich.

Deceased, in addition to her parents, are her sister, Arlene “Sugar” Bialko, and two brothers, Robert L. and Edmond Ralko.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Family and friends are welcome to gather at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Crucible, where a Mass of the Resurrection will be held. Marilyn A. Jordan Wadsworth, 69, of Ellsworth, died Sunday, February 9, 2014, in Washington Hospital.

Mrs. Wadsworth was born May 20, 1944, in Lawrenceville, a daughter of the late Roger and Mary Pecman Jordan. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Augusta High School and received her bachelor of arts in music from the University of Pittsburgh. She was the owner and operator of The Uniform Store with five locations in the Pittsburgh area. She was the first female to hold professional NFL license in the textile industry. Mrs. Wadsworth enjoyed golf, harness racing and making jewelry.

Surviving is her husband, Leslie Wadsworth of Ellsworth.
