William Debreczeni
Master sergeant and golfer
William “Bill” Debreczeni, 92, passed away peacefully February 5, 2014, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, N.Y.
He was born December 30, 1921, in Daisytown, a son of Alexander Debreczeni and Elizabeth Gyure Debreczeni. He married Frances Kutz June 15, 1943, in Casper, Wyo. Formerly residents of Richeyville, he and Frances moved to Washington in 1972. In December 2012, he moved to Liverpool, N.Y., to be closer to his daughter, Bonnie.
A veteran of World War II, he served his country proudly as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army in both North Africa and Italy. As a long time member of Arms Club in Washington, he enjoyed the friendships created through many golf outings. His daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren will always be appreciative to club members for keeping an eye on “the old goat.”
Deceased is his wife of 58 years, Frances; his parents, Alex and Elizabeth Debreczeni; and his brothers, Alex Debreczeni Jr. and Joseph Debreczeni.
Surviving are his daughter, Bonnie (Jim) Chupaila; his grandchildren, Jared and Brooke Chupaila; his great-grandchildren, Mia and Jaxon Chupaila; his sisters, Helen Miscky and Betty Jane (Dave) Black; and his nieces and nephews.
A private service was held Tuesday, February 11, in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Debreczeni to Arms Club of Washington, to assist the club with its ongoing support of local charities.
