Sherman M. Mounts, 91, of Claysville, died Friday, February 14, 2014, in Hillsview Personal Care Home, Claysville.
He was born July 24, 1922, in Buffalo Township, a son of the late William H. and Sylvia Scott Mounts.
Mr. Mounts proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning a Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with four bronze stars and a World War II Victory Medal.
He worked as a steel grinder for Precision Products in Washington until 1969.
Mr. Mounts was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Washington, where he served as a deacon and trustee. He also belonged to Claysville American Legion Post 639.
On February 14, 1946, he married M. Eleanor Wolfe, with whom he shared more than 53 years of marriage, before her passing September 24, 1999.
Surviving are five children, Del (Patty) Mounts of Washington, Darlene (Paul) Donahoo of Washington, Jerry (Jill) Mounts of Winchester, Va., Dan (Donna) Mounts of Claysville and Tom (Vicky) Mounts of Winchester; a sister, Martha Rinehart of Claysville; 15 grandchildren, Tracie (Rob) Webber, Kevin Mounts, Richard Donahoo, Jared (Keri) Mounts, Jennifer (Nick) Myers, George W. Mounts II, Joshua (Jennifer) Mounts, Eric (Amanda) Mounts, Desireé Mounts, Devon Mounts, Nica Burchett, Hilary (Shae) Davis, Lee Burchett, Jason (Dawn) Spitzer and Jeremy (Jennifer) Spitzer; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are a son, George W. Mounts; a granddaughter, Darla Donahoo; two sisters, Mildred Applegate and Louise Breese; and five brothers, William S. Mounts Sr., Melvin E. Mounts Sr., Cephas S. Mounts, Charles G. Mounts and Ronald D. Mounts Sr.
Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, with the Rev. Meade Lacock officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 639 of Claysville.
