Richard Allen Fike
Avid sports fan served in Desert Storm
Richard Allen Fike passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 15, 2014, in his home in Sault Sainte Marie, Mich.
He was born September 14, 1962.
Mr. Fike was a 1980 graduate of Waynesburg High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Germany and a tour in Korea. He was a war veteran of Desert Storm. He also served in the 101st Airborne and was later stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y.
Following his military discharge, Mr. Fike moved to Michigan with his former wife, Terri Kinnear/East, and two daughters. He then started his career as a corrections officer at Michigan Department of Corrections, where he was employed at the time of his death.
Mr. Fike was an avid sports fan. He loved watching NASCAR and was a die-hard Steelers fan. His summers were spent fishing with his daughters and teaching his grandson all the new tricks. He had truly touched many hearts, as he enjoyed the simple aspects of life. Mr. Fike will always be remembered with a smile on his face.
Surviving are three daughters, Danielle Elizabeth Fike and Krysta Lee Fike of Sault, Mich., and Tara Evosevich of Carmichaels; three grandchildren, Elijah Esson of Sault and Paige and Brady of Carmichaels; brothers Robby (Autumn) Fike of Waynesburg, Ronnie (Brenda) Fike of Fredericksburg, Va., and Randy (Brenda) Fike of Sturgeon Bay, Wis.
Mr. Fike had a sister, Tammy Hopkins of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by his father and stepmother, Jack and Sue Fike of Waynesburg.
His mother, Irene Hopkins, is deceased.
Friends were received Friday, February 21, in Hovie Funeral Home, Sault Sainte Marie.
