Longtime Finleyville borough secretary

Roberta Rennie Lash, 88, formerly of Finleyville, died Thursday, February 20, 2014, in Country Meadows of South Hills, South Fayette Township.

She was born September 9, 1925, in Gastonville, a daughter of the late Robert M. and Nettie Carton Rennie.

Mrs. Lash was a longtime borough secretary and auditor in Finleyville, where her husband, James W. Lash, was mayor from 1979 to 1985 and a longtime council member before his death in 1992.

Mrs. Lash graduated in 1943 from Peters Township High School and graduated from Pinkerton School of Business in Pittsburgh.

Previously, she was a secretary at Pittsburgh Coal Co. and McMurray Supply, an executive secretary at Duquesne Light Co. and an office manager for Rennie & Williams Auto Co., founded by her father.

Mrs. Lash was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Finleyville and its Gleaner Class, a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Finleyville Civic Club and a past member of Wright’s Methodist Church in Venetia. She was a talented seamstress and gracious homemaker, and she remained a passionate Democrat through many lively dinner conversations with her equally opinionated Republican spouse.

Surviving are her daughter, Cindi Lash (Chuck) Finder of Mt. Lebanon; two grandsons, David Finder of Mt. Lebanon and Brendan Finder of Pittsburgh; an aunt, Cora Carton of Avalon; two nieces; two nephews; and her dear friend, Harry Lytle of Finleyville.

A brother, David Rennie, is deceased.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m., the time of service, Sunday, February 23, in First Presbyterian Church, 3595 Washington Avenue, Finleyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pittsburgh chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, Landmarks Building, Suite 500, 100 West Station Square Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
