John P. Difilippo, 82, of California, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 26, 2014.
He was born Saturday, April 25, 1931, in Brownsville, a son of the late Filippo Di Filippo and Rosalia Mazzarese Difilippo.
Mr. Difilippo retired from J&L Steel and California University of Pennsylvania.
He was a charter member of California Trojan Booster Club, California Italo-American Citizens Club, California Young Men’s Club, Daisytown Athletic Club and Brownsville Sons of Italy. In addition, he served on California Borough Council for 26 1/2 straight years, where he served as council president. He was the California Citizen of the Year in 1976, served as president of the California Area Band Mothers Association, and was principle organizer of the Italian Club Steelers Bus.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Charles DeFilippo, and a sister, Rose Chiazza.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Genevieve Kime Difilippo; four children, Philip Difilippo and wife Linda of California, Terri Miller and husband James of Washington, John Difilippo and wife Ronale of Daisytown and Gennifer Difilippo of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Carmella Stazzone of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Jon Difilippo, Berton Miller, Brandan Lisenby, Bradley Lisenby, Carmella Difilippo and Gina Difilippo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 to 10:30 a.m., the time of service, Saturday, March 1, in Mariscotti Funeral Home Inc., Anthony N. Mariscotti, supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, California, with Father Michael Zavage, as celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Coal Center.
