Veteran and grandfather
John Plishka, 83, of Smithfield, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014, in West Virginia University Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
He was born in Denbo, on April 20, 1930, a son of the late Harry and Mary Petyo Plishka.
Mr. Plishka was a 1949 graduate of Point Marion High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Before retiring, he was employed as a miner at Shannopin Mine, Bobtown.
In addition to his parents, deceased is his sister, Anna Plishka.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Frances Soukup Plishka; daughter Anna Mary Plishka and granddaughter Angela; son John Plishka, wife Erika and grandchildren Cassandra, Lydia and Joel of Elkins, W.Va.; three sisters, Eva Truntich, Mary Burnsworth and Nancy Tyma, all of Florida; two brothers, Michael Plishka of Chardon, Ohio, and Herbie Plishka of Mt. Morris; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in John S. Maykuth Jr. Funeral Home, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, and until 10 a.m., the time of a blessing service, Saturday, March 1, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Father Jerome Botsko officiating. During interment at Fairview Church Cemetery, Masontown, military rites will be accorded by Masontown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584 and American Legion Post 423.
