Purple Heart recipient
Don E. Myers, 84, of Bentleyville, died Thursday evening, February 27, 2014, in his home.
He was born April 17, 1929, on the family farm in Bentleyville, a son of Raymond R. and Thelma Carson Myers.
A veteran, Mr. Myers served with the U.S. Army 25th Division Medics during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart.
He was a self-employed truck driver.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 165, both of Bentleyville; F&AM Lodge 237 in Beallsville and a former member of National Pike Steam, Gas and Horse Association.
Mr. Myers also served on the board of directors for Maple Creek Cemetery, Fallowfield Township.
On May 4, 1953, in Owensboro, Ky., he married Agnes Marie Volk, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Scott E. Myers (Debra) of Greensburg, Pamela A. Myers and Barbara J. Cooper (Dave), both of Bentleyville; nine grandchildren, Keith Cooper, Wendy Cooper (Zach), Kirk Cooper (Jena), Jason Myers (Lauren), Jordan Myers (Karisa), Christopher Myers (Krista), Jennifer Drew (Mike), Nick Kemerer (Shawna) and Krista Kemerer; eight great-grandchildren, Jared, Callie, Gary, Tristan, Waylon, Heidi, Gabrielle and Cecilia; sister Ruth M. Homme; a sister-in-law, Gloria Myers of Bentleyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are an infant daughter, Donna, and brother, Paul D. Myers.
Friends are welcome from noon to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in Thompson-Marodi Funeral Home Inc., 809 Main Street, Bentleyville, where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, with the Revs. Andy Scott and Ron Schermerhorn co-officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 165.
