Veteran was bass fisherman

Charles Edward Ceney, 86, of Waynesburg, died at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in Golden Living Center, Franklin Township.

He was born September 23, 1927, in Green Tree, a son of the late John Henry and Emily Harriet Angel Ceney. He resided in Annandale, Va., prior to moving to Waynesburg in 2003.

Mr. Ceney attended Rogersville Christian Church Place of Grace as long as his health permitted.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a private first class with the U.S. Army as a switchboard operator.

Mr. Ceney was a machinist and shop foreman for Atlantic Research Corporation, Alexandria, Va., for 35 years, prior to retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed building furniture, was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Redskins fan, and was a bass fisherman who won many trophies tournaments.

On February 9, 1952, he married Agnes Mary Scott, who died August 8, 2002.

Surviving are a son, Charles E. Jr., husband of Maryn Shultz Ceney, of Manassas, Va.; a daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Dave Collins, of Wind Ridge; two grandchildren, David Jr. and Anna Collins; a brother, Robert Ceney of Carnegie; and a sister, Florence Pollard of McDonald.

Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are five brothers, Frank, Herbert “Bud,” George, John Thomas “Tom,” and Richard; and four sisters, Dara Costilioe, Anna Viohl, Amy Sickles and Emily Cerra.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or funeral services. Interment is private.
