Veteran received many honors

Roy Alan Huggins, 66, of Claysville, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, in Washington Hospital.

He was born October 28, 1947, in Washington, a son of the late Donald Huggins and Sophia Samida Huggins.

Mr. Huggins was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School and attended Washington Institute of Technology and California University of Pennsylvania. He worked as a draftsman at Millcraft Mining for 25 years.

Mr. Huggins served as a corporal in the U.S. Marines from June 9, 1966, until his honorable discharge February 25, 1970. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge.

On August 25, 2000, he married Carolyn Washinsky, who died April 24, 2005.

Surviving are a son, Jeremy Rush of Claysville; two daughters, Gina E. Rush and Elizabeth A. Gladysz, both of Washington; six grandchildren; a nephew, Floyd Steele; a former wife and life-long friend, Sandra; and his former mother-in-law, Jean.

Deceased are a son, Brian J. Zofchak; two brothers, James and Robert Huggins; and two sisters, Thelma Steele and Geraldine Bunner.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 8, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
