Retired Duquesne Light coal miner
James D. Reid, 84, of Uniontown, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in his home.
He was born July 31, 1929, in Cameron, W.Va., a son of the late Charles H. “Chick” Reid and Celeste Barnhart Reid.
On March 31, 1950, he married Doris Roberts Reid, who survives.
Mr. Reid was a retired coal miner for Duquesne Light. He was a 65-year member of United Mine Workers of America. He served as chairman of Duquesne Light Local 6310, where he also served on the mine and safety committees. He was appointed union representative to the Pennsylvania State Board of Certification for Mine Foremen.
He was a state-certified electrician. He also worked as a real estate salesman for Reid Real Estate in Addison and as a part-time salesman for Glenn A. Arnold Real Estate.
Mr. Reid was an active member of Berachah Baptist Church in Somerset and a former deacon at John Corbly Baptist Church in Garards Fort.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, David M. Reid (Marlene) of Carmichaels; a daughter, Sharon D. Brewer (Tim) of Garards Fort; four grandchildren, James David Reid, Sarah Elizabeth Reid, Michelle Brewer Hutchison and Scott Glen Brewer; a stepgranddaughter, Meredith Sertich; two great-granddaughters, Meghan Hutchison and Kennedy Brewer; and a brother, Gerald M. Reid of Edmond, Okla.
Deceased is a brother, Charles Hastings Reid.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Behm Funeral Homes Inc., 182 West High Street, Waynesburg, where services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, with Pastor Dale Lyzbicki officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Morgan Township.
