Truck driver loved farming, raising beef cattle
Donald Leroy Morgan, 82, of Avella, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.
He was born May 1, 1931, in Canonsburg, a son of Robert L. and Alice Dinsmore Morgan.
A graduate of Cecil High School, Mr. Morgan was a truck driver as well as a farmer. He loved farming, raising beef cattle and was an active attendee of the Washington County Agricultural Fair for many years.
Mr. Morgan served in the U.S. Army from June 3, 1954, until his honorable discharge June 1, 1956, as private first class. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Parachutist Badge.
He was a member of Grove United Presbyterian Church.
On October 10, 1959, he married Clara Mildred Kelly, who died August 29, 2010.
Surviving are four sons, James Morgan of Jacksonville, Fla., Charles (Jody) Morgan of Avella, Scott Morgan of Washington and Jason Morgan of Canonsburg; a daughter, Carol Morgan of Avella; a brother, William Morgan of Bridgeville; and three grandchildren, Brent Morgan, Brianne Morgan and Kelly Doman.
Deceased are a brother, Robert Morgan, and a sister, Wilma Kordes.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 18, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating. Private burial will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, which had been his family’s farm.
