Army and Air Force veteran was a carpenter

Eugene E. “Oce” Riggle, 86, of Washington, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in Washington County Health Center, Chartiers Township.

He was born September 23, 1927, in Washington, a son of the late Frank R. and Anna D. Loughman Riggle.

Mr. Riggle was a skilled carpenter employed for Millcraft Products until his retirement.

He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Washington and a past member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club and Independent Club.

On October 24, 1953, he married Dorothy J. McWhorter, who died July 17, 1990.

Surviving are two daughters, whom he cherished, and the two wonderful men they married he considered as his sons, Jana (Bob) Roberts of Claysville and Lisa (Randy) Caldwell of Tampa, Fla.; three grandchildren who will lovingly remember him and made him a very proud man through their accomplishments in both academics and sports and the paths they have chosen for themselves, Marshall (Brooke Manchin) Roberts of Sewickley, Scott Caldwell of Washington, D.C., and Anna Caldwell of Tampa; and a great-granddaughter, Vivian Roberts.

All who remember Mr. Riggle either by “Oce,” “Oats” or Eugene will remember his love for nature – a love he shared with and remains alive in his children, grandchildren and his hunting and fishing buddy, his nephew, Greg Riggle.

Mr. Riggle served in the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Air Force Reserves and enjoyed traveling to and reminiscing about the places his military career took him. While he was in good health, he very much enjoyed traveling with his hunting buddies. When his health failed him, he continued to travel through the photos and stories of his many nieces and nephews near and far.

Mr. Riggle was the last of his immediate family.
