Retired operating engineer from Local 66
Jack L. “J.B.” Bowland, 69, of Hanover Township, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, in his home.
He was born October 23, 1944, in McDonald, a son of the late John and Valera Leary Bowland.
Mr. Bowland served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 485 in McDonald.
He worked for 31 years for Local 66 as an operating engineer and retired in 2000.
Mr. Bowland enjoyed gardening and raised chickens for a hobby.
On October 16, 1987, he married Centa Mae Stephan, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Randell (Wilma) Bowland of Weirton, W.Va., Leslie Todd Bowland of Bristol, Ind., and Jeffrey (Brandi) Bowland of McDonald; a stepson, Edward Semerod of McDonald; a stepdaughter, Rita (David) Eiler of McDonald; four sisters, Valera “Babe” (Bud) Menke of South View, Vivian “Bib” (Bill) Abbott and Pam Bowland, both of Bulger, and Brenda (Brad) Carter of Mt. Pleasant Township; two brothers, Richard Bowland of Langeloth and Johnny (Pam) Bowland of Burgettstown; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are a grandson, Joseph Bowland; a great-grandchild, Skyler Ellenberger; a brother, Charles Bowland; and a sister, Betty Abbott.
Friends will be received from from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday in Nation Funeral Home Inc., 220 East Lincoln Avenue, McDonald, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 18, with the Rev. Dr. Tina Hosler, pastor of Paris Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald.
